6/9/2010 11:01:50 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 9: Activists of BJP Mahila Morcha in large number, under the leadership State President Sakina Bano, held a massive protest outside office of District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Ambp-halla, against irregularities and favouritism by the department in distribution of pensions under various welfare schemes to widows and old-aged. Activists were carrying party flags and placards sloganeering against attitude of staff of department for delay in releasing pensions to deserving.
Sakina Bano, while addressing activists and general public said that there has been repeated complaints by the people against District Social Welfare Office for adopting pick and choose policy while sanctioning and releasing pensions and benefits of various welfare schemes. She said aged men and women are compelled to visit this office repeatedly to get pensions. Every time they are being sent back with the excuse of paucity of funds, while any one carrying slip from minister or leader of NC, Congress and PDP, is treated as VIP and paid pension easily. She said fresh applicants are also treated the same way.
The applications of common people keep lying for months together while those of influential ones are cleared in minutes. Bano took to task the staff posted in the District Office for not giving respect to the elder people visiting there. She charged the staff of treating them like beggars, which is not tolerable in a civilized society.
She demanded hike in the pension from rupees 200 to at least 1,000 as the prices are too high. She also demanded release of pension on monthly basis besides amending the way to treat the elders in a descent way.
Morcha General Secretary Priya Sethi, declared that if irregularities, malpractices and favoritism is not stopped immediately, the Morcha will further intensify agitation. She also urged the concerned minister to personally intervene so that the people are not made to suffer any more. Raj Rani Jamwal, Kamla Gupta, Neena Gupta, Vijay Raina, Sangita Gupta, Priya Jral, Meera Sarmal, Parveen Arora, Renu Khajuria, Usha Sharma, Reva, Saroj Gupta, Vidya Devi, Anju Bala, Geeta Singh, Bimla Padha, , Chanchla, Geeta Devi, Sharda Devi and Shama Devi were prominent among those who took part in the protest demonstration.
