‘Healing touch for Kashmiris, killing touch for Jammuites’
6/9/2010 11:37:59 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 9: It is no new story. Like his previous visits, the recent visit of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to the state has been a morale boosting for Kashmiri leaders as he has been generous enough for releasing number of economic packages for Kashmiris, particularly for the youth of Kashmir, who, he said were disillusioned on account of some reasons. On the contrary , this visit has been totally disappointing for the Jammuites.
As expected, the Prime Minister has talked about his government's policy and commitment to respect human rights of people at all costs. Even Security Forces have been warned afresh though in subtle tone and tenor to strictly comply the instructions given by the government in this regard. But not one really cares nor has any concern for human rights of people in Jammu region. These have been taken for granted as if they are no human beings or as if it doesn't matter to anyone if these get violated on any account.
There was no general reference about Jammu region , not to speak of any specific plans or programmes he envisions for progress and prosperity of this region. None from the central government has even cared for the people of Jammu. In Kashmir, deads are being exhumed from the grave yards to give them due justice but here in Jammu the Chopra murder case is yet a mystery. The state government has totally failed to identify and arrest the killers as yet. How can we feel that our lives and property are safe in the presence of constabulary?
This is just one small instance to corroborate the point. The people have shattered their faith in the present set up of the government as justice has not been done to the victimized family and there in dilly dallying in this safari killing. This blind murder case of five members of a family in the posh colony of Trikuta Nagar which happened under the nose of Trikuta Nagar Police Station is yet to be solved. Such cases needs to be brought into the notice of important central government dignities visiting the state from time to time. Also, the Central dignitaries, be that PM or any other leader should treat the people of all the three regions of the state with equal respect and voice concern for all , instead of pampering the people of Kashmir everytime. The complaints of people of Kashmir might be genuine but that does not mean there are no complaints, grouse or discontent among the people of Jammu or Ladakh.
