Tallest Rail Bridge over Chenab to come up in Reasi | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 9: The world's tallest railway bridge, even taller than Eiffel Tower in Paris, is to come up on the might river Chenab in Reasi district, about 35 km ahead of the holy Katra town. The bridge is a crucial link in the 125 km Katra-Banihal rail link. Work has resumed on the construction of the world's tallest railway bridge over Chenab after its alignment was found safe by a team of IIT-Delhi, according to official sources. The bridge was slated to be 35 metre taller than the 324 metre tall Eiffel Tower in Paris, the sources added. "The IIT-Delhi team headed by Prof KS Rao carried out the safety tests of the proposed 359 metre tall bridge. It found the bridge construction fulfils all safety parameters," sources said. The construction of the bridge was halted in July 2008 after concerns were raised over its safety and alignment. Railways had constituted a seven-member expert committee headed by former Chairman, Railway Board, M Ravindran to examine the issue.
