OPD in upcoming Unani Hospital, Srinagar opening shortly: Union Secy

SRINAGAR, June11 : The Centre today agreed to provide liberal grants for establishment of a modern pathology Lab and Pharmacy Unit in the newly coming up Rs. 7.65 crore 50 bedded Government Unani Hospital at Shalteng Srinagar.
This assurance was given by the Union Secretary, Department of Ayush, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, S. Jalaja, who accompanied by the Director, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicines (CCRUM) and Director, ISM J&K Ab. Kabir today visited the upcoming hospital to take stock of the pace of work on it. An amount of over Rs. 5.70 crore has been spent on construction of the Unani Hospital up to ending March 2010.
Union Secretary arrived here today on a 3-day visit to the State and is scheduled to inaugurate prestigious "National Conference as Role of Unani Medicines in Skin Disorders" at Regional Research Centre, Hazratbal tomorrow besides inspecting pace on development of various herbal/ medicinal gardens being set up in the State with liberal central funding.
Jalaja directed the concerned authorities to start Out Patients Department (OPD) in the hospital within a month for patients adding that required posts of medicos and other faculty members for the hospital would be sanctioned shortly, for which Directorate of ISM J&K has already submitted the proposal to the Government.
She also instructed for planting herbal and medicinal plants on the spare land around the hospital complex, adding that Unani and Ayurvedic medicines are becoming more popular among the people across the world, in view of no side effects of these medicines.
Jalaja also visited Indian Institute of Integrated Medicines at Sanantnagar and took stock of the research work being done at there.
The Union Secretary was informed that over 24 lakh patients have been treated in the ISM hospitals in the State during the last financial year.
The ISM department has realized the revenue of Rs 10.71 lakh during the last fiscal year.
