Enhance MENREGA funds | | | Early Times Report Kathua June 12: The object of MGNEREGA is widely achieved by the state as Jammu and Kashmir spent 196 crore out of total 200 crore allotted by the central government to benefit the people of the rural areas in order to mitigate the migration of rural people for jobs. This was stated by the Minister of State for higher education Dr Manohar Lal Sharma while addressing a Public Darbar at Billawar Tehsil of Kathua District. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma disclosed that duringhis visit to the state, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh assured the state government that MENREGA funds will be enhanced from 200cr to around 500cr so that objectives of employment as well as development of rural area are achieved. SDM Billawar, Assistant Commissioner Kathua, Deputy CEO, other District and Tehsil level officers and a large number of people were present on the occasion. Earlier deputations from Billawar, Dhanu Parole, Malhar, Ramkot and other surrounding villages met the minister and presented their demands. Deputation from village Dhanu put forth the demand of road and electricity problem. People of Malhar demanded completion of road work. People of the area urged the minister to appoint irrigation staff on contractual basis to enhance the irrigation manpower which was only 9 against 27 posts in Tehsil Billawar. Local deputation met the minister and demanded eviction of illegal encroachment in the tehsil. They also demanded distribution of bpl ration to widows and needy people. Representatives of Billawar as well as other adjoining areas urged the minister to give compensation to the families affected by the wind storm. Responding to various demands, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma assured people that their demands would be addressed on priority basis. He directed TSO to ensure BPL ration to widows and needy people and disclosed that additional quota of ration would soon be sanctioned. He also added that the listing of BPL families would be completed early as possible. He passed instructions to PDD officials to ensure completion of pending work. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma assured people that constructing roads in far flung area was their top priority and they had sufficient funds under NABARD for the purpose. He directed the concerned officers to complete the pending works under NABARD schemes. He disclosed that under NABARD blacktopping of 35 km road was done since March 2010. He directed the officer to complete another 15 km within stipulated time. Reacting to the demands of compensation to the families badly affected by the windstorms Dr Manohar Lal Sharma directed revenue officers to enlist the families who were affected by recent windstorms. Speaking on the occasion Dr Sharma disclosed that University Satellite Campus at Billawar will start functioning soon. He added that Rs 40 lakh for University Satellite Campus were already sanctioned. He assured that more infrastructures would be build up for Degree College Billawar during this financial year. Later Dr Manohar Lal Sharma distributed cheques to the widows under National Family Benefit Scheme by Social Welfare Department. Twenty-two beneficiaries were provided Rs 10000/- each under NFB scheme.
