To escape police offensive, ultras on the run in Poonch, Rajouri | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, June 11: Following intensified patrolling by police and army on the known militant routes and in the treacherous mountains of Poonch and Rajouri, ultras are on the run in the twin border districts. Police and army have launched massive “seek and destroy” operations in the mountains of the two districts to flush out militants, according to police sources. Sources said police also planned to train secret squads to take on militants in Poonch and Rajouri. Due to intensified patrolling, and search and combing operations, militants were on the run, the sources added. Sources said militants had changed their routes while going from one place to another to avoid direct contact with security forces. Even the infiltrating militants had stopped coming from the old routes, the sources added, saying they had been asked by the Pak ISI to explore new routes. When contacted, Poonch-Rajouri DIG S D S Jamwal said militants had changed their routes and strategies. He also admitted that there was a proposal to frame secret squads of civilians. Village defence committees (VDCs) were also training some civilians for self-defence, he added.
