Abdullah for greater industrial relations with US | | | Agencies New Delhi, Jun 11 : India ought to build better relations with the United States, particularly industrial relations, but not at the cost of other countries, Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah has said. Speaking here last evening at the formal announcement of the third US Asia Business Expo to be held in Los Angeles in the US during September 17-19, Dr Abdullah said, ‘’Indo-US relations have seen many ups and downs. We do ought to build better relations but not at the cost of other countries. We have a right to choose friends, nobody can dictate us.’’ Emphasising that India wanted to build far greater industrial relations with the US, the Minister called for technology transfer to India, particularly in his Department- New and Renewable Energy. ‘’Our turbines are 40 to 50 per cent efficient. We need technology transfer which is not easy.’’ He also expressed concern over fossil fuels which had created havoc, saying they should be reduced all over the world. Calling the US Asia Business Expo an opportunity to get the US open its doors to us, the Minister said it should help India in developing its energy sector. The Expo is being hosted by US Asia Business Forum, a non-profit US-based organisation which promotes the business opportunities between US, India and other 46 Asian countries. The focus of the Expo will be on global venture funding to help Asian economies to grow globally. Seminars and conferences will be held on investment programmes to be promoted for various segments of the industries. The expo will provide impetus for growth in small, medium and heavy industries between the US and Asia.
