CRPF gears up to meet challenges in fighting militancy | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 11: With new challenges coming up in fighting militancy in J&K, CRPF is gearing itself to take on militants in an effective manner. The CRPF, which has been engaged in the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Amarnath yatra, has started running special Battle obstacle and Assault courses to horn the tactical skills and improve overall fitness of its jawans. During the yatra period, CRPF would deploy 49 companies for the yatra duty to assist police and other security agencies for the smooth conduct of the yatra. Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force, Jammu A S Sidhu, while inaugurating Battle Obstacle and Assualt courses in Group Centre Bantalab here today, said, "A total number of 49 companies of the CRPF will be deployed for the smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra both in Jammu and at the two base camps in south Kashmir." He said, "For the purpose of imparting training to CRPF jawans, facilities have been created at Group Centre Bantalab, Nagorta and Dheerti Dharore for running Battle Obstacle and Assault courses on rotational basis". The IG said a long firing range for training CRPF jawans would be inaugurated soon to improve their firing skills. Sidhu said CRPF would station quick reaction teams, ambulances and recovery vehicles along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway to immediately tackle the emergency situation and assist the state police during the yatra period. He said with new challenges coming up in fighting militancy in J&K, ultras in north east and Naxals in other states, there was a need to prepare troops both physically as well as mentally and with placement of Battle obstacle and Assualt course in group centre campus, both the aspects could be taken care of.
