EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 11: In open violation of Migrant Properties Distress Sale Act, hundreds kanals of land belonging to Kashmiri Hindus and their religious places in Valley has been encroached by the land grabbers in connivance with concerned revenue officials.
According to sources not withstanding the Government claims to protect the migrants leftover property in Valley under the much talked about Distress Sale Act, the encroachment of the Minorities land continues unabated in the Valley by the land grabbers in connivance with revenue officials. There is total nexus between the revenue officials and land grabbers, the sources said, adding even at various places the some Government organizations are also involved in grabbing the migrant land for construction of schools, roads, buildings tourist resorts etc.
The sources said that there is such a nexus among the revenue officials and the land encroachers that the former have mutated the revenue records and transferred the land on the name of the land grabbers after taking a hefty sum from them.
The sources said the prime land of an ancient temple worth crores of rupees in heart of the Srinagar city has been illegally sold over a decade back and no action was taken by the Government to restore the same land to the Trust after taking action against the land mafia. Likewise the cremation ground in Sopore township of Baramulla district and the land of Bairao temple has also been grabbed in the town and Government has till date failed to restore the same. In the same town 100 kanals of land of Wazir Bagh which belonged to Kashmiri Pandits was grabbed by one influential person and the Government has failed to restore the same though Sanatan Dharam Sabha Sopore had made several representations before the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Revenue Minister, Raman Bhalla in this regard, the sources added.
Munch intriguing is that the land of Cremation Ground was taken by Government for construction of bridge over river Jehlum over 10 years back and the concerned agency has failed to pay the compensation to the Sanatan Dharam Sabha till date.
In Baramulla township of North Kashmir a dharma Shalla belonging to Kashmiri Pandits has also been forcibly occupied by some musclemen for running a School and the local Hindus are running from pillar to post for restoring it to the SDS Baramulla but in vain, the sources said.
Likewise in Handwara township of Kupwara district in North Kashmir the land belonging to a Hindu temple and its shops have also been grabbed by some influential people in the town and authorities have failed to take action till date.
In various villages of Sugam area of the same district the land belonging to Kashmiri Pandit migrants has been grabbed by some people after mutating the revenue records. Similarly in Shopian District of South Kashmir the prime land of Kashmiri Pandits has been occupied by the Government without informing its owners for construction of Bus Stand, the sources said, adding the owners are running from pillar to post for restoration of the same but to no avail.
In village Sagam of Anantnag district of South Kashmir and Village Vanpooh also in the same district the land belonging to Hindu shrines were occupied by the Government for constriction of health centre and RDD Office, he sources said, adding in village Hangalgund near Kokernag in the same district land measuring over 50 kanals which belonged to Hindus of the area was recently encroached by the members of majority community for construction of Eid Gah. But after the migrants of the area took matter with the Education Minister, Peerzada Mohammed Syed who represents the Kokernag Constituency the construction work was stopped by the Minister and status quo of the land maintained.
However the sources said confronted with the problem of mutation of revenue records the Kashmiri Pandits are now left with no alternative but to sell their land on throw prices in various places of the Valley. Recently a migrant Pandit from Anantnag township sold his shops on cheap rate after it was encroached by some locals in connivance of Revenue officials.
