World Blood Donation Day observed

JAMMU, June 14: To mark the world Blood Donation Day camps were organized by the Regional Indian Red Cross Society in association with Young Blood Organization, Health & Medical Education Departments andother Voluntary Organizations.
The Minister for Health, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated two Blood Donation Camps at Red Cross office and another at Gandhi Nagar Hospital organized to mark the World Blood Donors Day.
Lauding the role of the Indian Red Cross Society for rendering yeoman's service to the nation, the Minister said that this Organization deserves all praise for its valuable contribution during the emergencies. The Organization is always at the forefront to serve the mankind at the time of natural calamities, the Minister added.
Describing the blood donation as a noble service towards ailing mankind, the Minister called for encouraging more and more donors to come forward and donate liberally. He stressed for launching a vigorous awareness campaign by the Government and Voluntary Organizations/ NGOs at tehsil and block levels to educate the general masses, especially the youth about the importance of blood donations.
The Minister also appreciated the role of Young Blood Organization and some other Voluntary Organizations including Nirankari Mission for organizing frequent blood donation camps and contributing towards this human cause. He had a special word of praise for Mr. Anil Padha, Regional Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society and President YBO for his initiatives in this field.
A large number of doctors, para-medics, students of AMT Schools of Jammu and Udhampur, social workers and leaders turned up for blood donation at both the camps. The donors exhibited great enthusiasm and some of them informed that they are regular donors.
Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, HoD Blood Transfusion Department, GMC, Dr. T.R.Raina, Chief Medical Officer, Jammu, Dr. Baldev Sharma were among those present on the occasion.
