Mehbooba, other political leaders visit house of deceased, demand stern action against accused | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 14: More political, social and student organisations have strongly condemned the kidnapping and brutal 'murder' of 10 years old boy, Shaleen Gupta of Nai Basti for ransom on June 11. Expressing her concern over growing "criminal politician nexus" in the State, Leader of opposition and president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today lamented that brutal murder of a class 5th student was result of this nexus as due to patronage of their political mentors criminals have no fear of law or law enforcing agencies. Interacting with media persons at the resident of deceased Shaleen Gupta, PDP chief said that crime graph has been increasing in the State in general and Jammu region in particular due to patronage of criminals by the politicians especially of ruling parties leaders. Mehbooba along with party general secretary, Balbir Singh and other senior leaders today visited the residence of Shaleen Gupta at Nai Basti to express her sympathy with the bereaved family. Shaleen Gupta a class 5th student was kidnapped for ransom and later killed by the kidnappers on Saturday. The PDP chief expressed her sympathy with the family of deceased Shaleen Gupta and assured that being leader of the opposition she would ensure that justice would be given to them. "Instead of adopting set procedure, those involved in gruesome incident should be given exemplary punishment so that others could not ever dire to even think of committing such crime in future," she demanded and added that fast trail should be done in this case as it was first of its kind incident in the State where a minor child was kidnapped and murdered for ransom. Mehbooba warned against any political interference in this case and asserted that PDP would not hesitate to take some extreme step if delay techniques were adopted in this case. Meanwhile, Leader of Panthers Legislature Party Harsh Dev Singh condemned the kidnapping and brutal murder of the minor Shaleen Gupta and demanded that those who gave political shelter to kidnappers of Shalin should be exposed. Talking to media persons here, Singh took strong notice of alleged political shelter to accused persons. He said, "Political shelter is not new in the Jammu but now the time had change. So it is the duty of the government and police for a partial enquiry into entire case so that people would come to know about their leaders." The activists of BJP Mahila Morcha also condemned the act of kidnapping and killing of innocent Shaleen Gupta. In a meeting held under Morcha president Sakina Bano, the members also expressed heartfelt sympathies with the family and prayed Almighty to give strength to the family to bear this irreparable loss. The Morcha leaders, on this occasion, said, "It is very unfortunate that peace loving city of temples Jammu also had to witness such a gruesome act of murder." They also expressed their concern about the multiplicity of such kinds of incidence if stern action is not taken against the criminals who had earlier also asked for the ransom from some other family in the same locality. Abdul Majid Wani, Congress leader has also condemned the brutal killing of Shaleen Gupta. "All those responsible for this crime as well as any government or public functionaries found responsible for any sort of laxity should be given the highest exemplary punishment. This rare of the rarest case should be accordingly dealt in by the Police and the Government. Otherwise, the criminal minded people might get encouraged to perform such crimes in future also," he demanded. Similarly, the United Sikh Council has appealed all the Sikh Organisations for total "social and religious boycott" with the alleged criminals involved in the heinous crime committed by them in Jammu region recently. Addressing a press conference here today, Kuldeep Singh convenor of United Sikh Council condemned the crime on behalf of entire Sikh community and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. He also demanded immediate Police action against the criminal and appealed the government to provide maximum ex-gratia relief to the next of the kins of the deceased. Singh said that this incident indicates that total collapse of the hold of Sikh leaders on the youth of the community. It was decided that a Special Kirtan and Ardas would organized at Gurudwara Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ashok Nagar Jammu on June 16, 2010 at 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in memory of Master Shaleen Gupta. Balwant Singh Mankotia State president and MLA Udhampur today visited the house Naresh Gupta, father of Shaleen Gupta of Nai Basti and expressed deep shock over the killing of Shalin Gupta. National Secular Forum (NSF) also condemned the barbaric killing of the 5th class students by kidnappers at Belicharana in Jammu. "The accused Devinder Singh had also made an attempt to kidnap the boy of Junior Engineer four months back and the father had lodged a formal complaint with Police Station Gandhi Nagar but Police didn't take action against him which led to this tragedy," Vikas Sharma, president NSF told reporters here. "Shaleen died due to negligence of Police department in general and the SHO Gandhi Nagar in particular. The administration has not initiated any action against the concerned SHO for the negligence," Sharma said. He maintained, "Had they been punished earlier by the Police, one life could have been saved." The NSF chief demanded independent inquiry to whole incident by state Govt. The ABVP also demands Rs 5 lakh as a help to the family members of Shaleen Gupta who got killed by kidnappers yesterday and demands stern action against the culprits without any political involvement as reported in the matter so far.
