7 killed, 38 injured in road mishaps | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 14: Seven persons, including two minor girls, were today killed and 38 others wounded in four road mishaps on the Kathua-Patnitop stretch of the national highway. A video coach (JK02G/6807) skidded off the road near Patnitop and landed into a gorge at about 2.45 pm, resulting in the death of four persons and injuries to 31 others. The dead were identified as Sajia (25), wife of Irfan of Palai, Basohli, Tania (10), daughter of Pritam Singh of Mahanpur, Basohli, Palak (4), daughter of Rakesh Kumar of Shadipur in Dina Nagar, Punjab, and Badri Nath of Prem Nagar, Doda. The injured were admitted to the Batote hospital. Seven of the critically injured were later referred to the GMC Hospital here. The ill-fated bus was on its way from Jammu to Doda. Police sources said the mishap occured after the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve. In another incident, two persons were killed and as many others injured when an oil tanker fell into a gorge near Chenani. Sources identified the dead as Gopal Krishen and Vijay Kumar, working in MES department. The injured were hospitalised. Jarnail Singh was killed on being hit by a speeding minibus near Chopra Shop, Udhampur. Five members of a family were injured when a car in which they were travelling turned turtle at Kishanpur near Kathua. All of them were admitted to hospital.
