LeT, HM cadres at loggerheads | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 14: Due to shrinking strength of militant cadres and elimination of top commanders, an inter-gang rivalry has begun between Pak-sponsored terror outfits -- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). The flow of militants from Pakistan to India had also stopped due to enhanced and round-the-clock vigil on the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LOC). This had led to the building of psychological pressure on the militants in J&K and they were virtually pushed to defensive, army sources said. "There are credible intercepts which indicate that LeT and HM militants operating in upper reaches of Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda districts are at loggerheads due to the declining leadership, lack of arms, ammunition and support from across the border," the sources added. Sources said the inter-group rivalry had created factions within the outfits and led to intra-gang rivalry too.The split among militant cadres surfaced with the killing of Chota Bashir by his associates at Dessa in Doda district on May 31 this year followed by assassination of hardcore LeT commander Manjoor alias Zuber, who was active in Gulabgarh bowl since 2000, by an HM militant, Irfan Mushtaq this month, the sources added. "The failure of militant outfits to recruit fresh youth, drying up of funds and elimination of over 40 militants by the security forces within a span of four months has left a vacuum in the top leadership," the sources added.
