Staff wants elected Secretary to Sports Council

JAMMU, June 15: The striking employees of the J&K State Sports Council today demanded an elected Secretary for the autonomous sports body under laid down norms for the smooth functioning.
Highlighting their plight on the seventh day of their ongoing agitation to get the demands accepted, speakers laid emphasis on early election of the Secretary Sports Council and constitution of the highest decision making body—the Standing Committee by the nominated members.
These employees said that since 2003 the Sports Council has not been able to get an elected Secretary resulting into further deterioration in its functioning. Striking under the banner of J&K State Sports Council Employees Association, these employees while sitting on dharna outside the Sports House, MA Stadium, here made a fervent appeal to the Council president and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to personally intervene and look into the genuine demands. Among those who addressed the striking employees were Iqbal Singh, Vikramjeet Singh, Vijay Kumar and Rajinder Singh.
