ARUN TRISAL
KATHUA, June 15: J & K Ex-Services League President organised a mega rally at Mehta Palace and submitted memorandum Zila Sainik welfare office and Deputy Commissioner Sanjeev Verma (IAS). On the occasion SSP Garib Dass was the guest of honour.
While addressing rally District President Captain Sagra Singh focused on long pending genuine demands of ex-service men, he said that demand for one rank one pension is our long pending genuine demand and principle of one rank one pension is followed all over world except in India. The rationale of one rank one pension is in disputed as successive Govt. have taken note of this genuine demand for which a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of cabinet secretary Govt. of India but the decision of the Govt. have come as shock to ex servicemen as their demand of one rank one pension has not been accepted this time also. The double pension benefit is not giving to widows of ex servicemen who were getting double pension by virtue of their completing two pensionable services, one in armed forces and other in Para military forces. The league also demanded the recruitment rallies should be organised in District Kathua so that the wards of the ex-servicemen could take part in them. CSD canteen facilities should also be given to ex servicemen. CSD has been shifted to 493 coy A SC (SUP), ex service men are facing the problems in getting liquor as well as other items. The league also demanded that ex servicemen should be employed in canteen instead of civilians as at present besides provided the mobile canteen to far flung areas.
Transport facilities to military hospital should also be given to ex service men. Disbursement of arrears of pension should also be done properly by SBI and PNB while the government has released the amount. It has also big concern of ex service league that shifting of office of the Zila Sainik Welfare Office Kathua and to establish Kendrya Vidylaya which is also an injustice with the ex service men because the Kendrya Vidylaya needs at least 60 to 70 kanals of land to establish itself but land available with Zila Sainik Welfare Office is only 16 kanals. Pieces of land of 16 kanals was allotted to Zila Sainik Board during 1955 vide J&K Govt ministry of revenue under no. 45 of 1955. There is a proposal to have a "War Memorial" for those gallant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country from the district Kathua. Gun License may be issued for NSP weapons allotted by Army H/Q. Various other prominent ex service men of the league, Tehsil President Capt. Mohan Lal, Brgd. S.S Sambyal and Gen Secy. Lt. Col. J.S Jasrotia also addressed the rally.
