JU fails in conducting PG admission through entrance | | | MISHU GUPTA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 15: Entrance examination for the admission to various PG cources conducted by University of Jammu still seems to be a 'distance dream' as the University of Jammu (JU) yet has not prepared itself for the same, well informed sources disclosed. Sources said unlike past years the Jammu University has shied away from the conducting entrance examination reasons better known the nodal authorities and has rolled back from its decision to admit the students in various PG/Diploma/Under Graduate courses of the teaching departments for the academic session 2010-11 on entrance basis. Sources said during a meeting of the Core Committee on PG Entrance which was held today to take this decision citied shortage of time as the main reason not to hold the entrance test. However, it was also said that the process of entrance-based admissions would start from next academic session. Sources said that Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni chaired the meeting while Registrar Dr P S Pathania, Dean Academic Affairs Prof R D Sharma, Controller Examination Prof G M Bhat, Additional Controller Examination Sanjeev Mahajan, Joint Registrar J K Sharma and Prof Rajnikant (HoD Physics) were among others present in the meeting. When contacted, Registrar Dr Pathania confirmed that entrance would not be conducted this year but in the next academic session admissions will definitely be made on the basis of entrance. He however added that the decision was necessitated to maintain the academic calendar of the University, as this year the final year results of B.A/B.Sc/B.Com are likely to be declared shortly and we want the PG session to begin by the first week of August which is not possible otherwise. Further he said that the decision was taken in the overall interest of the students and the institution and added that from next session the process of entrance-based admissions would be initiated from the month of April itself. It is pertinent to mention that University authorities had claimed many times to implement the process of entrance based admissions in its teaching departments to provide a fair chance of admission to the students who score less in qualifying examination for several reasons. Meanwhile reacting to the decision, one of the senior faculty member of Professor rank in the University, on the promised anonymity resented the decision and said that the authorities should have observed patience and discussed the matter threadbare before making a formal notification in the public before disclosing that entrance test should be conducted. Without proper home work they took a step ahead and the same has been rolled back- it has hurt the image of University in general and its administrators in particular," he said.
