BJP admits ‘mistake’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 15: Sticking to its tradition of waiting in wings to watch the issue brought to fore by some other organisations to later hijack it from them, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today admitted its “failure” to immediately react to the issue of kidnapping and murder of 10 years old boy, Shaleen Gupta for ransom. “Choti Moti Galti Hui Hogi Iss Mudhe Par (small mistake might have occurred over the issue),” remarked Shamsher Singh Manhas when asked to comment on BJP leadership’s failure to immediately react on the issue after the incident of kidnapping and brutal killing of young Shaleen at Nai Basti on June 11. He, however, claimed that the district unit of the party was “active” and it had protested the brutal killing of Shaleen for ransom. Manhas along with other senior party leaders of the party returned to Jammu today after attending National Executive Committee of the party held at Patna. “We are not influenced by the Police or someone else as the BJP has always stood and fought for the cause and plight of the people of Jammu and Kashmir particularly Jammu and we would definitely provide logistic support to the bereaved family members,” Manhas claimed. The BJP state chief, however, took no time to hit hard on the Congress Party and said, “It has been reported that a Cabinet Minister, belonging to the Congress Party, had pressurized the Police personnel for the release of one of the accused from custody. We demand a free and fair inquiry through a retired High Court into the whole episode.” Manhas also demanded establishment of a Police Post at Nai Basti area, saying that it has turned into a hub of “drug mafia”. Besides, the BJP leader questioned the creditability of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Farooq Khan accusing him of working under some political pressure. Earlier, he took a dig at the functioning of the state government and said, “The National Conference-Congress coalition government seems to be encouraging and shielding criminals as the crime rate of Jammu city has increase manifold in recent past.”
