Deferment of entrance based admissions in JU | Students resent decision, ask VC to resign from post | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 16: : Up in arms against the Jammu University authorities' decision not to conduct entrance test for Post Graduate courses, the activists of different student outfits today accused the varsity administration of "hoodwinking" thousands of students. They also demanded that a white paper should be issued on the whole issue. Talking to media persons here, Vikas Sharma, president National Secular Forum (NSF) criticized the University for abolishing the entrance system for admission in the BCA/BBA courses and lowering down eligibility criteria for B.Ed. He called upon the Chancellor of Varsity Governor N N Vohra to intervene the matter. Castigating the University authorities for not keeping their promise, the NSF president alleged that all this has been done because of prevailing "nepotism" in the campus. He claimed that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Varun has failed to carry forward the much needed reforms in the varsity. "Instead of working as a paper tiger it is better for him to step down," remarked Sharma. "Last year it had been decided in principle to switch to entrance based admission system from the current academic session; the proposal got clearance from University council, notification in this regard issued eight months ago, recently the procedure adopted for the new mechanism was also notified," he maintained. The NSF president added, "It is regrettable that at the eleventh hour University has backtracked from its own decision because of widespread disorder in the campus." The former JURSEA president also accused the University administration of compromising with the standards of education by lowering down the eligibility criteria for professional courses on behest of the "strong lobby of private colleges" calling for immediate remove of Director Colleges Development. Meanwhile, the activists of National Conference Student's Union (NCSU) also held a protest demonstration on the campus of Jammu University against the decision. The protestors led by Yasser F Khan gathered at main gate of the University campus and raised slogans against the Vice Chancellor and administration for their "improper planning" and coordination. Addressing the gathering, Khan alleged that the decision to roll back conduct of entrance test through P.G courses proved their incapability and lack of experience. "The university authority has always taken immature decisions which hurt the image of the university," he charged. |
