6/17/2010 1:27:54 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, June 16: A congregation was held in Gurudwara Guru Tegh Bahadur, Ashok Nagar Jammu cantt by United Sikh council to pay homage to Late Shaleen Gupta, the son of Naresh Gupta of Nai Basti. Various sikh leaders openly condemned this shameful incident and expressed shock and anguish over it. They said that the kidnappers have brought a bad name to the entire sikh community. The speakers demanded a stern action from the government against the culprits not less than a death sentence within a period of a month. They have also urged upon the entire sikh community including others also to have social boycott with the culprits families and cut off all social relations with them to teach them a befitting lesson. While speaking on the occasion, Kuldeep Singh convener of the united sikh council said the whole of the sikh community expresses its solidarity with the bereaved family and shall always stand with them in their thicks and thins.
Some women leaders also spoke and said that Shaleen was not the son of only Guptas of Nai Basti but was a lovely son of every mother and father whose eyes went wet on knowing the said and shameful incident of barbaric killing of this innocent child.
Later a protest march was held from Gurudwara complex to the residence of Guptas to console the bereaved family. Babli Sharma a spoke person amongst the women folk demanded that a temple should be constructed in place of the house of Devinder Singh and a statue of Shaleen Gupta be installed there as a token of memorial. The women leaders also expressed their shock and condemned the apathy on the part of Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (AYSS) for not uttering a single word on the murder of Shaleen Gupta S/o Naresh Gupta. During Jul-Aug 2008 Sangarsh Samiti agitation, Nai Basti was a focal point and maximum support was given to the agitation from each person of the Nai Basti for its success. Till date none has visited the Shaleen's family to share their grief and sorrow. The attitude of the political leaders has also been condemned by the spoke person in the condolence congregation. It was alleged who so ever is released from the jail after undergoing imprisonment for six months and above for their heinous crimes, is sheltered by the political big wigs and give them a grand gesture as and when they are visited upon by the criminals. They are offered chairs to sit in their front and rich tea and snacks. In addition, offered contracted works for construction of lanes and drains where only sand is used which totally fades away after a month or so. Thus political leaders are also the mentor of criminal, for their own political ends. Shabad Kirtan was recited by ragi jathas and ardas was performed by the head granthi who also prayed to Almighty to give peace to the departed soul in heaven and courage and strength to the bereaved family to bear this everlasting loss.
