HC directs SSP Jammu to appear in person | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 17: Fearing abduction of her sister by her husband, a woman preferred a habeas Corpus petition. The petition was heard by vacation judge, Justice JP Singh today. The learned Justice directed the SSP Jammu to appear in person in the court on next date of hearing. Earlier, the court had directed SHO Police Station Gharota to produce the woman. The counsel for the respondents produced a report stating that the said lady has not been residing at Ranjan Kullay since the past one year but was staying at some unknown destination with her husband. Upon this the High Court directed SSP Jammu to take necessary steps for ascertaining the present residence of the lady who according to the report of P/S Gharota is residing somewhere in Jammu. "In case lady is presently living in Jammu, she be produced before the Court", the court directed. Today nobody appeared for the respondents. Justice JP Singh issued notice to SSP Jammu to appear in person with the direction to the Registry to list the case in the first week of July. In the petition filed by Kunti Devi elder sister of Ritu Devi alias Sapna wife of Satpal were living as husband and wife for some time but owing to differences, Ritu came to live with the petitioner at Channi Rama. Ritu also filed a petition u/s 13 of Hindu Marriage Act which is pending in the Court of Additional District Judge Jammu. It has been alleged in the petition that Satpal along with Abdul Gani with the help of some goons abducted Ritu Devi on June 20, 2005 and a case of kidnapping was registered against Sat Pal at P/S Bahu Fort Jammu. A challan in the said FIR has been filed in the Court of law which is pending adjudication. It is also alleged that on March 20, 2009 Ritu Devi was again kidnapped by Sat Pal and Abdul Gani forcibly. A case has been registered. --JNF
