| Volleyball tourney gets underway in Udhampur | | |

UDHAMPUR, June 17: A Divisional Level Inter District Volley ball Tournament under 14 and 17 yrs boys and girls being organized by the Department of Youth Service and Sports today commenced at Mini Stadium, Udhampur.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi range, Gulzar Singh Salathia inaugurated the tournament.
Senior superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Surinder Gupta, District Youth Services and Sports officer (organizing Secretary), Udhampur, S. Rajinder Singh, Dy.SP HQ, Suram Singh, officers of Youth Services and Sports, heads of the educational institutions, prominent citizens and sports persons besides large number of students were present on the occasion.
As many as nine teams of boys and girls drawn from different districts of Jammu Division are participating in the tournament.
Wishing the young participants and organizers all success for the smooth conduct of the tournament, the DIG said that sports activities are the best media to channelize the positive energies of youth for the constructive purpose. He said that such activities provide a common platform to the budding sports persons to exhibit their sports talent and enable them to face various challenges in their life smartly. He called upon the students to take part in games for their physical and mental fitness.
Slathia called upon the officers of the sports department to put in their best efforts in promoting the rural sports for the enrichment of sports culture even in far flung areas of the district.
