6/17/2010 11:59:39 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 17: Despite State Government's orders to all schools for observing 'Summer Vacations' from June 1, in Jammu region, even after passage of 15 days, private schools in Jammu region and its adjoining areas are working, however in disguise. Schools have directed students of higher classes to attend classes in plain and casual clothes. Does it amount to utter violation of government order and a cruel joke with students? As per the reports, most of the prominent private schools of the winter capital and its outskirts have not been following government order and running schools with impunity and breaching the order.
On visiting different schools in city to take stock of situation, it was learnt that many private schools including some owned by influential politicians were opened and students were taking their routine classes. Condition was no different in out skirts of Jammu, reports from Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor, Bishnah, and R.S Pura confirmed that many schools were operating even after prescribed date of June 1. "Every year state government declares suitable date for Summer Vacations, but the private schools always violate their orders as per their wish" maintained a student Shikha.
Pertinently, summer vacations are meant for lessening the burden and refreshing the young minds, to bring change in hectic schedule of children as coming months will observe scorching heat. During the vacations" we have to attend school in casual dress to attend classes in name of extra classes, schools also charge extra fee for these extra classes from students, stated Simran, student of a reputed private school. She further said that state government should take stringent action on private schools violating government directives.
Director School Education, Jammu Zahida Khan said on June 2 that there were about 14,000 private schools in Jammu region; it was not possible for authorities to inspect all schools. "We are conducting random inspection in schools". She further said that CBSE affiliated schools did not fall in BOSE jurisdiction. Even after passage of 15 days, condition on ground is same, and Director is in Srinagar to enjoy vacations with her mobile phone switched off. In her absence there is no one to take care of the education department in Jammu region. Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Syed was also not available for comments as he also is would be enjoying vacations in hilly valley but forgetting his responsibilities towards the innocent students of Jammu.
