| HM district commander killed in Doda | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: A Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) district commander was killed by security forces in a gunbattle at Behota in Marmat area of Doda this afternoon.
Police sources said acting on a tip-off about the presence of HM district commander Abdul Qayum in a populated area of Behota, police and army yesterday launched a joint operation to hunt him down. The whole area was cordoned off, and all entry and exit points to the area were plugged, the sources added.
Sources said while the jawans were zeroing in on a house in which he was suspected to be hiding, he came out at about 1.30 pm and fled towards the nearby forests.
He was, however, chased and killed by jawans in a brief exchange of
fire. He hailed from Mangta, Marmat. One AK rifle and three magazines were recovered from him. Active since 1993, he was involved in several militancy related
incidents in and around Marmat, the sources added.
