EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 17: Quick on the heels of Singhay Khabab the three day long Government sponsored Ladakh festival which was celebrated at the banks of river Sindh in Leh from June 12 to14, preparations are on for celebrations of Sindhu Darhan festival in Ladakh From June 23 to 25. According to sources over 800 pilgrims across from different parts of country are participating in the festival which will be held at bank of river Sindh. The function is being organized by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti led by Indresh Kumar its chief patron, the sources said. Former chief minister of Ragasthan, Vasundra Raje sindhiya and All India general secretary BJP, J.P. Nada will be the main guests on the occasion. The Sindhu Darshan festival was started by senior BJP leader L.K.Advani during NDA rule in 1997 and since then every year hundreds of devotees from entire country visit Ladakh to participate in the festival. In 2002 the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated it. However after the defeat of NDA in 2004 elections at centre the UPA Government changed the name of festival from Sindhu Darshan to Singhay Khabab meaning from mouth of Lion. The BJP and RSS while taking the serious exception to the UPA move resolved to continue the Sindhu Darshan on parallel lines by involving people across the country as well as local population of Ladakh to participate in the festival. The main idea of holding the 3 day long functioning and involving yatris from across the country in this festival is to boost the economy of Ladakh and make cultural exchange between the people of region with other parts of country, said Rinchin Tundup President Ladakh Fanday Tsogspay. He accused the UPA of warning the Government that centre will not pay a grant of Rs. 17 lakh for holding of festival if it does not change the name. He also accused the Government that Rs.17 lakh given by the centre are utilized for arrangements of VIPs while no attention is paid to building of infrastructure. Mr. Tsogspay said that work on Sindhu Bhawan started during NDA time is stand still as new Government did not pay any attention to it and this proposal has been shelved now. He said on June 19 a programme will be held at Abhinav Theatre Jammu by Samiti while Yatris will be hosted a welcome at Kargil on June 21. They will reach Leh on June 22 where the 3 day long festival will begin from june 23. The main focus during this year festival will be development of Ladakh, border issue, and coordination of people with administration and opening of Kailash Mansarovar road to Yatra. He said on June 25 a Yatra chalo-Kailash Ki Aur from Leh to Opchi will be taken out on July25. He said the main programme will be held at June 24 at bank of river Sindh in Leh in Budhist and vedic traditional way. It will be followed by a cultural programme, he added. The yatris will also visit various villages of Leh under the programme Gram Darshan and the concluding programme will be held in Pologround Leh on June 26 morning.
