PM's announcement of Pahari Cultural Centre welcomed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 18:- A meeting of the Pahari Forum was held at Bathandi, Jammu under the chairmanship of Abrar Ahmed Khan. The Forum welcomed PM's announcement of establishing Pahari Cultural Centre. The chairman said that establishment of such centre would go a long way in preservation and propagation of tribal cultural heritage of Pahari speaking people. He also expressed happiness over the announced additional funds from Union Tribal Ministry for the welfare of Pahari speaking people. He appealed the Central government to grant scheduled status to Pahari speaking people as recommended by Justice Saghir Working Group. It is pertinent to mention that Pahari speaking people have been fighting for the cause for last two decades years. The President of the Forum appealed to the state government to take measure for providing free coaching to the students of this community in quality coaching institutions so that they are able to compete in professional examinations like IIT, medical entrance and other competitive exams. He also lauded the efforts of young CM for giving scholarship to the Pahari speaking students up to primary standard and said that the students who are pursuing M. Phil and Ph. D in different streams should also be given incentives.
