Centre asked to foot migrant wage bill | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 18 : The Minister for Revenue and Relief, Raman Bhalla, will convene a meeting of commissioners and sectaries, including R&B, health, industries and education to formulate a policy under which prospective Kashmiri migrant recruits to government job will be posted nearest to district headquarters. Official sources said that Bhalla has urged the Recruitment Board to release the list of 3,000 migrant youths who have been selected for various government posts. The central Government has announced to meet the wage bill for these 3,000 posts. Sources said that some of the youths, who had been interviewed for the jobs, had approached the Revenue Minister that after receiving the appointment orders, they may not be posted in far flung areas. The Minister assured them that he would try to make it possible that they are posted at tehsil headquarters. This is the main purpose of the meeting to be convened by the Revenue Minster. The Revenue Minister said that the selection process for about 2,000 youths had been completed and he had issued instructions to the Board that appointment letters be issued only after the entire selection process was completed. He said it may take another one week because he wanted all the 3,000 youths to move to Srinagar together to join their places of posting. Raman Bhalla said that he would take up with the concerned officials in New Delhi the issue of sanctioning another 3,000 posts for the migrants in the central sector. He explained that under Prime Minister's employment package 6,000 posts had to be reserved for the migrant unemployed youths. Out of 6,000 posts the wages for 3,000 posts had to be met by the state government and the centre had to foot the wage bill of the remaining 3,000 posts. He said because of paucity of resources and constitutional constraints "we could not reserve 3,000 posts in the state sector." He said during his recent meeting with some top central leaders an indication had been received that the centre was not averse to meeting the wage bill for another 3,000 posts. .In reply to a question he said that those migrant youths who had applied for government jobs had given an undertaking that they were ready to serve in Kashmir once they received appointment orders. Hence there was no coercion on the part of the government in asking migrant youths to accept jobs in Kashmir adding that these posts were vacant only in the valley. |
