Govt mulling action against unscrupulous handicrafts traders: Sagar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, June 18: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that effective measure would be taken soon to ensure marketing of indigenous handicrafts and to curb the practice of selling fake products in the name of Kashmir handicrafts. The Minister was interacting with a deputation of Government Central Market Shopkeepers Association. The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia was also present. Sagar said that existing law would be strictly enforced to check sale of spurious handicrafts under the brand name of Kashmir. He said adequate measures would also be taken to divert maximum tourists to visit the heritage Central Market adding that the market would be further developed to make it that the matter regarding attracting the tourists to this heritage market would be taken up with the concerned authorities so that one of the major tourist attractions and handicraft selling market in the State. Slathia while speaking on the occasion, said that the Government is well about with the problems of handicraft artisans and dealers adding that all the possibilities would be explored to further expand marketing avenues for Kashmiri artefacts all over the country and abroad. He said pristine grandeur of Kashmir handicrafts would be protected at all costs. He said the Government is aware that some unscrupulous traders are indulged in sale of fake handicraft products under the Kashmiri brand and strict action would be initiated against them. The meeting was also attended by Director Handicrafts, Mehraj Din Keenu and other senior officers of t he department. |
