PDP still trying to placate cong, considers NC enemy No. one | | | ASHWANI EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 18: Though Pradesh Congress is facing internal squabbles and two factions one led by PCC chief Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz and another by union Minister for Health Ghulam Nabi Azad are vying for one upmanship over each other, a group of oartymen including senior party leaders don't feel comfortable in alliance with National Conference. According to high placed sources this group still has a soft corner towards People's Democratic Party (PDP) and doesn't consider it untouchable. These leaders had given went to their feelings during a recent meeting with Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram in Union Capital recently, the sources added. The sources said while apprising Mr. Chidambaram of their reservations about the style of functioning of NC leadership these Congmen have made it clear to Union Home Minister that they had not forced any such a problem during the coalition headed by PDP leader Mufti Mohammed Syed. To keep the morale of these congmen Mr. Chidambaram has reportedly told them that Mr. Mufti is also not our enemy. This has created new hopes among these congmen who totally consider NC a liability for the party which if not contained will erode its base, especially in Jammu region, the sources said. The sources said this group is also opposed to style of functioning to PCC chief Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz who has close proximity with NC top leadership and is a strong votary for alliance with Dr. Farooq Abdullah's Party instead of PDP. However the sources said PDP which is fully aware of internal wrangles in Congress and fissures in coalition is also playing a safe game. To entice the congress the PDP leadership makes guarded statement on every issue. While attacking the Government on any lapse and shortcoming the party chooses to target NC leadership instead of congress as it still considers the party a trusted ally, the sources added. The sources said PDP leadership has never named the Congress ministers for any problem facing the people in the state while attacking Government it made its focus either on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah or other NC leaders. The sources said to implicate NC and create an embarrassing situation for the party, the PDP supreme named a NC leader and an MLC for managing the release of one of the murderers of Shalin from Police custody few days back. The PDP supreme also levelled serious allegations on NC leader and did not touch the congress leader whose name also made rounds in the city. The sources said PDP is calmly watching the condition and waiting for the occasion when the rift between the two alliance partners reaches to no reapproachment. The sources said PDP which considers NC enemy No. one is also trying to placate senior congress leaders in Union Capital and the state in entering an alliance with the party in case the rift between NC and Congress widens further. The sources majority of the congmen are of the view that during Mufti's time Jammu and Ladakh regions got their due share an all spheres of development and the views of congressmen were equally respected. Moreover, Mufti Mohammed Syed agreed to share power with congress for half of the term, the sources added.
