| J&K seeks NE type funding for Education schemes | | More funds to set up Polytechs sought | |

NEW DELHI, JUNE 18: Jammu and Kashmir government has sought a North Eastern type funding pattern for the State in the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes in Education sector and enhancing the funding for setting up Polytechnics in the hilly districts of the State.
The demands came at the 57th meeting of Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) of HRD Ministry here today. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Human Resources of Development (HRD), Kapil Sibal. Minister of State for HRD, D Purandeswari was also present on the occasion. The State delegation to the meeting comprised Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayed, Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Prof. R. S. Chib and Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik.
Speaking in the meeting, Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayed impressed upon the centre that Jammu & Kashmir be equated with other North Eastern states in the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes and on a similar analogy be provided funds in the ratio of 90:10. He detailed the implementation of schemes like Sakshar Bharat, Compulsory Education Act-2009, setting up of model schools and girls hostels in the State.
In his address, Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Prof. R. S. Chib detailed the efforts of the State Government in bringing about skill development through a network of Polytechnics being set up in the State. He urged the centre to enhance the amount for construction of Polytechnic colleges in the 14 hilly districts of the State from present Rs. 8 crores each to Rs. 15 crore each. He said all possible steps have been taken to ensure proper implementation of schemes while stressing on the need for monitoring of such colleges coming up in private sector. Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, in his address termed the establishment of National Education Finance Corporation as a historic step set to benefit the poor students coming from rural areas of the country. He also detailed the steps of the State Government in expanding college education to remote and far off areas of Jammu & Kashmir including setting up of Model Colleges in educationally backward districts. Earlier, in his inaugural remarks, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal said that the Ministry is considering the merging of the CBSE conducted Common Pre Medical Test and the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) so that students are saved from the bother of sitting for two separate exams.
The two day meeting deliberated on issues like Higher Education Research Bill 2010, Right of children to free and compulsory education, National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) and core curriculum on Science and Mathematics subjects at the Higher Secondary stage.
