New time schedule for plying of vehicles on Sgr-Leh NH
Akhoon for strict implementation of rules for traffic regulation

SRINAGAR, June 19: For smooth plying and regulation of traffic on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, it was decided that vehicles from Kargil to Srinagar will be allowed to move at 4 a.m, from Drass at 6 a.m and from Gumari 10 a.m. so that they should cross Zojila pass by 11 a.m. positively. While from Sonamarg towards Kargil and Leh the traffic will be allowed from 3 p.m. onwards.
This was decided at a meeting of officers of transport, traffic and Beacon held at Sonamarg today under the chairmanship of Minister for Transport and CA&PD, Qamar Ali Akhoon.
The meeting also decided that from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Beacon authorities will maintain the road for better regulation. The new time schedule for regulating the traffic movement on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway will be implemented from June 25, 2010.
After threadbare discussion it was decided that no load carrier will be allowed beyond load of 8 tonnes and 7quintals from Sonamarg on wards and priority would be given to light and passenger vehicles to move their respective destination.
It was further decided that the Weigh bridge would function daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Sonamarg and will provide printed receipts, besides, stickers on the load carriers to avoid violation of load carrying capacity.
Commissioner Secretary, CA&PD &Transport Asgar Hassan Samoon, Transport Commissioner, Fazullah, DIG Traffic Kashmir, A.Q. Manhas, Director CA&PD, Kashmir, Abdul Waheed Tak, RTO, Kashmir, SP Kargil, Officer Commanding, BEACON, CEO Sonamarg, ARTOs Kargil and Leh and senior officers were present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting the Minister stressed for implementation of government instructions with letter and spirit and no violation will be tolerated. He asked the traffic and motor-vehicle department for initiating effective measures for smooth regulation of traffic on the road.
The Minister was also called on by the deputation of local transporters and put-forth their demands including parking slot for their vehicles at Baltal during yatra period, exemption of entry fee to be charged by Shrine Board. He gave a patient hearing to the deputationists and assured them that their genuine demands would be looked into.
Later, Akhoon visited to Baltal and took stock of the arrangements being putforth for ensuing Amarnath yatra at base camp. He also visited to Tulmulla and assessed the facilities being provided to the devotees at Khir Bhawani Mela.
