Taj, Rana, Madan lay foundation stone of Jajjar Lake

JAMMU, JUNE 19: Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din accompanied by Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Devender Singh Rana and Member Parliament Jammu-Poonch Constituency, Madan Lal Sharma today laid the foundation stone of the proposed artificial lake at Jhajjar Kotli.
Being constructed by the Irrigation and Flood Control department at an estimated cost of Rs. 285 lakh, the lake when completed will boost tourism potential as the place is oftenly thronged by the pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi coming from all over India and abroad, besides providing flood control infrastructure to the nearby areas.
MLA Nagrota, Jugal Kishore, ex-Minister Lal Mohd Sabar, Ex-MLA Shiv Dev Singh, engineers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, prominent citizens and large number of people were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Taj said that the proposed lake would have a weir having length of 24 meter and height 6 meter across Jajjar nallah. He said that with the construction of weir an artificial lake having area of 20250 sqm shall be created with poundage capacity of 50 AF. He said that the lake will extend upto 450 m upstream both in Jajjar and Jhuni nallah.
This will enhance the beauty of picnic spot thereby attracting more tourists throughout the year. He said that it will also create opportunities for development of Aqua Sports and Fisheries in the area. It will recharge the ground water in the vicinity also.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana appreciated the efforts of the Minister for initiating necessary steps for construction of the lake.
Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma while speaking on the occasion also congratulated the Minister and the people of the area on the eve of laying of foundation stone for construction of Jajjar Lake, a famous tourist spot nearest to Jammu city.
He said that with the construction of this lake, the people of the area will earn their livelihood as the lake when completed shall open a variety of job avenues in tourism, fisheries and other related activities for the local youth. MLA, Jugal Kishore Sharma also thanked the Minister for construction of lake.
