Army organises debate competition | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kishtwar, June 19 : Major Sushil Aima, Kirti Chakra Memorial Debate Competition was organised under "Operation Sadbhavana" by a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in coordination with Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar. Debate Competition was organised at Higher Secondary School, Kishtwar from 14 Jun 2010 to 19 Jun 2010 in three phases. The preliminary round was conducted on 14 & 15 Jun 2010 with approx 60 students participated. In second round which was held on 17 Jun 2010, 30 shortlisted students debated over selected topics. The Grand Finale was held on 19 Jun 2010 for 10 selected students. The students freely expressed their views, and were allowed to speak in English, Hindi or Urdu to build a competitive spirit in them and also improve their communication skills. Great amount of zeal and enthusiasm was witnessed among the competitive. Commander of Rashtriya Rifles Sector at Kishtwar was the Chief Guest for the finals where a large number of officers and dignitaries from the civil administration were present. A large number of students, teachers of various schools from Kishtwar district alongwith thez parents of the students were present to witness the competition. In an atmosphere of fierce competition stretching over four days Master Vipan Lal of Higher Secondary School, Sarthal school stood first while Miss Shivani Bela of Girls Higher Secondary School, Kishtwar school and Miss Parkhi Parihar of Girls Higher Secondary School, Kishtwar school stood second & third respectively. The Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the winners of Debate Competition. In addition the Best School trophy was awarded to Kishtwar school for having the maximum number of finalists in the competition. Speaking on this occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the enthusiasm for participation displayed by the schools to make the event a success. He also lauded the efforts of the students and urged them to pursue their studies in order to seek better employment and suitable jobs in future. All participating children were given certificates and suitably rewarded by the conducting Army unit. Competitions has also been gainfully utilized to identify and select potential candidates worthy for commission in the Army for being trained specially under the HRD centre of Headquaters Northern Command at Udhampur. Indian Army has always endeavoured to provide all possible assistance to the local population alongside their mission to eliminate terrorism which has plagued the state for almost two decades and this particular event stands a testimony to the peaceful environment and declining face of terrorism in the state. |
