J&K govt playing with Hindu sentiments: BJP

Early Times Report
New Delhi, June 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government for imposing entry fees on buses and other vehicles for Amarnath and Mata Vaishnodevi Yatra and said it is 'playing' with Hindu pilgrims' sentiments.
"Jammu-Kashmir government by such decisions is playing with the sentiments of Hindu pilgrims. Instead of providing better amenities to the pilgrims the state government is making attempts to disturb the 'Teerth Yatra', said BJP National General Secretary Vijay Goel.
He further said Rs. 25,000 is being charged from those, who arrange langar during Amarnath Yatra, although they do this in the service of pilgrims.
"Jammu Kashmir Govt. decision to impose fees on lacs of pilgrims going for darshan of Baba Amarnath and Mata Vaishnodevi by their private vehicles is reminiscent of 'jajiya' imposed during Mughal period, which was forcefully imposed on Hindu pilgrims to torture them," he said.
Goel called upon the UPA government at the centre to direct Jammu Kashmir Government to desist from making attempts to discriminate between various religion followers and to practice such shameful politics.
"On one side, the central and state govt. are trying to promote tourism and providing various facilities to tourist, on the other hand such Tughlaqi orders are being issued against Hindu pilgrims," said Goel.
The Jammu Kashmir state government has already issued a notification to this effect under Jammu-Kashmir Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1957, which speaks to charge Rs. 2000 as Entry Fee from three days pilgrims going to of Mata Vaishnodevi and @ of Rs. 2000 per day more if they stay more than seven days.
Similarly, Entry Fee of Rs. 2000 is payable on pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra i.e. if people go for pilgrimage of Amarnath for seven or lesser days by their own vehicles, they would be charged Rs. 2000 as Entry Fee and if they choose to stay more than seven days they would be charged Rs. 2000 extra for each later day.
