Thousands pray at Mata Kheer Bhawani Asthapan

Jammu, June 19: Thousands of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu thronged the Mata Kheer Bhawani Asthapan, Bhawani Nagar to participate in the annual Jaishta Ashtami festival.
Yatris were waiting for their turn to have darshan of Godess from early in the morning and the rush of devotees increased with passage of the day and it continued for rest of the day.
There were a large number of stalls selling the items of pooja samgri and delicious eatables on the both sides of Bhawani Nagar road.
A hawan as was also organised by Ardratri Maha Ragniya Sewa Sansta. The day long bhajan and Kirtan continued in the Shrine. The function culminated with Samohik Aarti in the evening.
Besides the Sanstha, the police and other Government departments had made elaborate arrangements for the yatris. The volunteers of the Sanstha were also deployed to assist the yatris.
A special prayer and Pushpa Archana of Mata Kheer Bhawani was also performed at Sharika Peeth Sanstha, Subash Nagar where large number of devotees participated in the function.
The original shrine of Tullamulla Kashmir has been built by Kashmiri pundits in the valley. Maharaja Pratap Singh got the temple constructed in 1912. Later, Maharaja Hari Singh undertook the repair and restoration work on the temple. The Foundation stone of Kheer bhawani jammu on 24thFebruary 1983 anda majestic Temple has come up here now. The devotees of different communities are visiting the temple to seek the blessings of the Mother Maha Raghenya and to attain the spiritual solace at the sanctorum. On this ocassion devotees offer milk and kheer (Indian sweet dish) to the sacred spring. It is believed that milk and kheer turn to black color to warn of any impending disaster.
The Sanastha performed Hawan on this occasion and the devotees joined in purn Ahuti. The evening Sambohik Arti was offered at 7:30 pm wherein more than 15000 devotees participated.
The eighth day of the full moon in May holds great significance for the devotees of Ragnya Devi. They fast on this particular day and gather at the temple in huge numbers. It is believed that on this day, the goddess changes the color of the spring's waters. The Kheer Bhavani temple serves as the venue for an annual festival held in May-June, During this festival, a large number of Hindus visit the temple to seek blessings of the goddess. Another occasion on which the Kheer Bhavani temple gains special importance is Shukla Paksh Ashtami. On this day, havans/yagnas are performed to please the goddess.
