External forces had incited students: BGSBU VC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, June 21: Caught up in a controversy at the campus few days after a high-profile function organised by him at Narwal here, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) vice-chancellor and former ADGP Masud Ahmad Choudhary today claimed that some "external" forces were being the students who had adopted agitational path in the recent past. The students had clashed with the campus authorities and demanded Masud's removal, holding him responsible for "mismanagement" at the campus. The university authorities had used police force against them. Addressing a press conference here, the VC said all demands of the students had already been met and there was no justification behind their strike. "It is unfortunate that some political leaders interferred in the university affairs and misled the students", he claimed. "We will not allow external interference in the university matters," Masud asserted. He referred to the role of external forces and some students in tarnishing the image of the university which, he said, had established its credibility not only in the state but in the whole country. "We had conceded most of the demands of the protesting students on June 11 itself, and majority of them wanted to resume classwork, but a well-organized attempt was made to disrupt the B.Tech entrance test on June 13," he said. He said photographs of one girl, who fainted during the strike, were circulated to all newspapers. That particular student had earlier also fainted several times even in the hostel, he added. The hostel mess was never closed as claimed by the striking students, he said and added essential services such as potable water and power were also never disconnected. In reply to a question, the VC said, "I have no problem in leaving the institution if my resignation can help in furthering academic excellence and development of the university."
