Batwal community highlights grievances | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JUNE 21 : The Jammu and Kashmir Welfare Association held a press conference at Chack Lal Din here today, wherein the leaders of the Batwal community highlighted the injustices and the problems being faced by the Batwal community. The leaders said for the last one decade a series of memorandums were submitted both to the union the state government but no action was taken on them. Association president Sat Pal Lakhotra (former MLA) said that in 1994 the Planning Commission of India conducted the ethnographic study of J&K Batwal community giving assurance to the community members that the government of India is determined to enhance their economic position but unfortunately even after the passage of 15 years nothing substantial has been done for them. In the employment field, also the community youth are being ignored by all the recruiting agencies. Therefore, in view of the prevailing scenario of the community the association urged the union government to grant 'Economic Package' in favour of the Batwal community on the basis of the report of its ethnographic study, and sought its directions for all recruiting agencies for according priority to the community youth in the selection for govt services. The association also urged the state government of Jammu and Kashmir to provide representation to the Bata community in the upper house and its important forums.
