Gandoh, Bhalessa ignored by NC regimes, says PDP
6/22/2010 12:01:14 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
GANDOH, JUNE 21: Lambasting NC-led coalition regime for its failure to properly implement the Centre- sponsored schemes, general secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thakur Balbir Singh today said that failure of the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) scheme reflects non-serious attitude of the government in addressing problems of the masses of people. Addressing one day convention of party cardholders at Gandoh, Balbir Singh said that this scheme remained only on paper as majority of the cardholders were not getting 100 days jobs which was mandatory as per the provision of this scheme.
He observed the NREGA scheme was only on papers and nothing concrete was done on the ground. He mentioned that owing to prevailing red-tape-ism in the administration, this scheme has not been implemented so far in backward areas like Gandoh and Bhallessa.
"It is mandatory under this scheme to provide 100 days employment to each job card holder, but in this belt most of card holders have been running from pillar to post to find employment", he said, and added that the State Government has miserably failed to take benefits of this scheme despite the fact that it has proved beneficial for poor people in other parts of the country. He further pointed out that residents of Gandoh and adjoining localities have been facing shortage of food grains which belies the claims of concerned authorities that essential supplies were provided. It is only paper work, he said. Describing backwardness of the area and its under-developed status, he regretted that even after 63 years of independence authorities failed to construct 30 kilometers road from Thathri to Gandoh... He castigated National Conference for exploiting people of this region just for its political interests only. He said that successive NC regimes have only exploited the sentiments of the people but did nothing to alleviate their problems.
"It was only during PDP-led government that a comprehensive policy was formulated for the development of these areas", he said, and informed the party workers that during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Saeed various projects were started for the development of this belt. District President of Doda, Sheikh Mujib Ali and other senior leaders addressed the convention organized by Riyaz Zarger.
