1st batch of Amarnath yatra starts on June 30 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 21: The first batch of pilgrims to cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir would be flagged off from Jammu base camp on June 30. The first batch, which would have a night halt at Pahalgam and Baltal base camps, would leave for the holy abode of Lord Shiva on July 1 when the yatra formally begins. About one lakh fifty thousand persons have so far registered for performing this year's Amarnath Yatra in the first 15 days through the 121 designated branches of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank across the country. The registration process had commenced on June 5 last. During the Yatra, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) is providing at its cost an accident insurance cover of Rs one lakh to the registered pilgrims who possess valid yatra permits. During the Yatra, the SASB has also completed the required formalities to provide similar insurance cover to all the registered labourers deployed during the yatra. All concerned agencies and departments of the state government are working on war footing for clearance of snow on both the tracks from Baltal and Pahalgam to the holy cave.
