'Political benefactors' silent, waiting for right opportunity ?

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 21: While Kashmir boils again amid its ever bountiful nature and cool environs, Jammu despite under a grueling Sun and plummeting mercury is maintaining its cool. Notwithstanding provocations on Amarnath Yatra, common masses are quiet for reasons understood well. But one wonders at the 'studied silence' of political parties supposed to be 'benefactors' of Jammu and its Hindu majority.
An intellectual from Kashmir in the backdrop of fresh dictates from hardcore leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani countered in equal harsh tenor by Leelakaran, remarked in disguised innocence in a private conversation ,"Amarnath Yatra concerns all the Hindus of India….how come its is always Jammu based leaders feel more perturbed and concerned intensely about its duration related statements or any other aspect….?"
Whether there is a point or substance in this observation is a secondary issue. But this surely reminds one of the 'hot role' in lead in the land row agitation led by the Jammu based Political parties for the cause of Hindu sentiments and Jammu as a whole. While some fringe organizations have come up with some reactions over Geelani's fresh dictat, the big ones like BJP, Panthers Party etc, to speak of some prominent political parties have yet to make any comment, leave alone giving any harsh reaction. This is interestingly in contrast to the 'histrionics' leaders of these political parties lavishly indulged in during the Amarnath land row of 2008.
This goes without saying that by raising the bogey of "environment damage" to the Himalayas and calling for shorter duration of the annual Amarnath yatra, Hurriyat leader Geelani is only provoking the Hindus. His fears and apprehensions, which he had made the basis of fresh controversy are all unfounded as Amarnath Shrine Board and state government should and must take care of all the concerns related to protection of environment and ecology by taking needed measures to check pollution and pollutants during the course of Yatra with influx of pilgrims.
As of now Geelani's provocation seems to have touched the nerve of only Leelakaran who has made it loud and clear that if anybody tries to disrupt Yatra, 2008 agitation can be repeated with much more intensity. Whether this should be construed as reactionary statement or simply uncalled for in the wake of the fact that Geelani is only trying to irk the sentiments of Hindus, is a different thing to debate. But the silence from the Jammu based parties this time certainly is conspicuous not only in political circles but also among common masses.

That political parties strike the iron only when it is hot is a fact. The fact also remains that political parties rake up any and every issue for its own interests and political benefits it measures from the weight of the issue. Their role instead of that of concern and care for the masses is that of sheer opportunism which has been proved many times and is self explanatory in this fresh controversy again. Since there are no polls round the corner nor do the common masses as of now appear to be in mood to respond to what Geelani is saying, the Jammu based political parties perhaps realizing this have chosen to remain silent.
Whatever is holding them back for now commenting for now, it augers well in the interests of Yatra and Yatris as also for the people of the state- all of whom are for smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage . It also augers well for the people of the Jammu in particular who should see the things for themselves rather than getting swayed by political parties, be it BJP, Congress or Panthers Party, in matters of religion.
