JU students say no fee hike in PG courses | | | Mishu Gupta EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 22: The proposal of Jammu University to increase the fee structure may again put the campus on boil as the students and scholars have out rightly rejected the varsity’s proposed move and warned that they would oppose any such decision. The Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), Prof Varun Sahni, who chaired a meeting with the representatives of the students and the scholars, faced the heat when the students and scholars opposed the varsity’s proposal of increasing 15 per cent in fee structure. Registrar Dr P S Pathania, Dean Academic Affairs Prof R D Sharma and Dean Students Welfare Prof J S Tara were also present in the meeting. The meeting was called to discuss the core issue of fee hike in various PG courses of the University to which the students and scholars had opposed vociferously a month ago. The Vice Chancellor explained the rationale behind the proposed fee hike and stated that the same was being done on the directions of State Government to create more funds. Rakesh Chib, JURSEA president, Varinder Singh Chib, Sunil and Mahesh sharply reacted to the proposal of fee hike and opposed the same. They also raked up the issue of PG admission entrance and held the concerned authorities responsible for non-introduction of the same from this session and termed it as their failure. Besides, they alleged that the authorities were misusing funds while students made to suffer on their account. Rakesh Chib said, “The students would not tolerate it if they go ahead with their proposal of 15 per cent increase in fee structure. We have been asking authorities for 10 per cent hike in fee for PG courses. JURSEA would not allow the varsity authorities to implement any anti-student move.”
