Jammu, June 22: With Mercury touching the people day by day, the Jammu is witnessing worst ever power crisis at present and the authorities at the helm of affairs are totally sleeping over the issue.
Instead of 8 hour routine power cut the Jammu is witnessing 10 hour power cut nowadays making the life of people miserable.
This is generated a lot of public resentment among the masses.
Despite the claims of PDD authorities of supplying round the clock electricity in the areas, there has been no improvement in those areas where electronics transformers have been installed by the Department.
The people in such localities also complaint of power cuts.
The department according to sources is unable to coop up the situation as the 55% power purchased from Northern Grid goes to Kashmir Valley when as per agreement it should have been less as the demand of power is much in Jammu region during the summer than Kashmir valley.
However the sources said the authorities at the helm of affairs in defiance of the agreement curtail the supply to Jammu region. Moreover contrary to the claims of PDD authorities of installing electronic meters throughout the state for better power supply to check the electricity loss and theft the sources said 15 to 20% total area in the state has only been provided electronically metered.
The sources said the main reason to it is that the department is constrained with meters shortage and if it continues the installation with present speed, then entire state will not be metered in next two decades also.
The another problem being faced by the people is power fluctuation and low voltage but department pays no attention to solve the problem.
The low voltage and light fluctuation has resulted into burning of electrical transformers in various localities forming people to remain without power supply for days together.
As mercury touched 44 degrees during last few days and today the day's temperature remained 43.4 degrees forming people to sweat, there's no hope that the power situation will better in coming days.
Seeing no respite from increasing heat coupled with increasing electricity curtailments, there was a fair like situation at Ranbir Canal with hundreds of people taking dip in it to get respite from scorching heat. However the people are pinning high hopes on early monsoon and pre monsoon rains.
With the Department of Metrology predicting a good monsoon this year the people are praying the rain God's showers to relieve them of this trouble.
