Planning commission member Dr Syeda meets Sakina Itoo

SRINAGAR, June 22: Member Planning Commission of India Dr Syeda Hameed, currently on an official tour of the valley, today met and interacted with Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo.
During the interaction various issues of development were discussed especially relating to status of various centrally sponsored social welfare schemes and other issues of SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities and women in the state.
Replying to the request made by Minister for Social Welfare for enhanced cooperation and provisions of necessary resources, member Planning Commission said that the commission is conscious of the need to do more for the people of Jammu and Kashmir adding that success of the plan depends upon the quality of service delivery by the state. "The development in basic infrastructure and amenities/facilities should be perceptible, especially in rural areas of the state, Syeda Hameed said, adding that policy makers and implementing agencies of the state should introduce necessary intervention to enhance the efficiency of the programmes and to ensure better utilisation of resources and full utilisation of funds made available to them".
Giving details about the steps taken by the state government, Sakina Itoo informed the member that the state government in line with the vision of inclusiveness is going beyond the traditional objective of poverty alleviation, to encompass equality of opportunity as well as economic and social mobility for all sections of society, with affirmative action for SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities and women and providing appropriate and accessible social services and safety nets for persons with disabilities to ensure improved well-being for all.
The minister asked and hoped for positive intervention from the member planning commission Syeda Hameed for cooperation and timely and enhanced release of funds to the state for improving basic infrastructure and social security net across the state.
