Nirjala Ekadashi celebrated in Udhampur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur, June 22: Nirjala Ekadashi was celebrated in Udhampur with religious fervour. Most of the Hindus observed fast on this day. Fruits and sweet drinking water were served to the people on the occasion. Shiv Shakti Mandal organized a sabeel at Shiv Nagar. Talking to ET, Raj Kumar and Govind Ram Sharma said that Ekadasi fasting is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed on the 11th day of a fortnight in a traditional Hindu calendar. Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Pandav Bhim Ekadasi fast. The difference from other Ekadashi and Nirjala is that devotees do not drink water on the day. They added that Nirjala Ekadasi is one of the strictest fasts described in Hindu religion and among all Ekadashi. Nirjala means 'without water.' No food is consumed on the day. The fast begins on Ekadasi sunrise and ends on next day (Dwadashi) sunrise. They said they arrange sabeels (water supply points) every year at Shiv Nagar. Meanwhile Smt Sunilla Devi wife of late Ashok Kumar, Bank Manager also donated a water cooler at Sai temple for people after performing religious ceremonies.
