Cross-LoC trade runs into rough weather as 6 India trucks returned unloaded by PoK | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, June 22: The cross-LoC trade on the Poonch-Rawalkote route once again ran into rough weather when traders in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) today returned six India trucks unloaded. On May 26 last, 18 PoK trucks were sent back by Indian traders in Poonch without off-loading them. The six trucks returned today by the PoK traders were despatched to Rawalkote by the Poonch district administration in view of the ongoing strike by the cross-LoC traders on this side. The traders are on strike for the past five weeks and have decided to keep the cross-border business suspended till all their demands are met. The six trucks were sent back by the PoK traders and administration from the zero line. When contacted, the cross-LoC trade deputy custodian Munir Khan admitted that the PoK traders and administration had returned trucks unloaded from the zero line. The striking cross-LoC traders, however, said by sending six trucks to PoK, the government had tried to build pressure on them for ending their agitation. "These were fake trucks sent by the Poonch district administration in connivance with the traders of Amritsar and Delhi", Pawan Anand, a cross-LoC traders association member, said. The cross-LoC traders association spokesman Shiraz Khan said the returned trucks belonged to the agents of traders from Punjab and other states. The trucks were returned from the zero line because these were not sent by the genuine traders, he added. Khan said the Poonch administration wanted to sabotage their strike by sending outside trucks across the LoC. On May 26, the Poonch traders had returned 18 PoK trucks unloaded in protest against the ban imposed on import of "ajwain" by the trade facilitation authorities. The Poonch administration has already made it clear that only those items which are included in the list finalised by Indo-Pak government and mentioned in the standing operation procedure (SOP) would be allowed for imports. The traders were told that ajwain didn't fall in the list of 21 items approved for import-export by the two sides.
