Omar tries a couple of words against separatists | Hurriyat (G) says this 'school kid' should not exceed his brief | | AHMED ALI FAYYAZ EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 22: After religiously treading on the separatist-friendly course set by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's PDP for 18 months of his coalition government, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today mustered courage to utter a couple of bitter words for the hardliner Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani, albeit without mentioning his name. He asserted, by insinuation, that the separatist leaders were making fortunes for themselves but getting Kashmir's poor children killed in simulated clashes and attacks on security forces. With the separatists freezing and defreezing the valley of Kashmir at their sweet will and his government's writ failing to gain visibility, Chief Minister complained that "certain elements" had become merchants of death. "It's most unfortunate that some disruptive elements want to keep the pot boiling by instigating innocent youth to attack bunkers which results in loss of precious human lives", he told mediapersons on umpteenth day of near-total shutdown, enforced by the separatist alliance headed by Geelani. Without identifying anybody, Chief Minister added: "Some elements are instigating the youth to shed their blood to satiate their vested interests while their own children are living a luxurious in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Pakistan". He said that some of these very separatist leaders' children and relatives were conveniently and comfortably working in his own government and thus taking home their monthly salaries without break. In his terse reaction to some Hurriyat leaders' allegation that Chief Minister was thirsty of the Valley's youngsters' blood, Omar asserted that it was completely the reverse. "These were leaders have been indoctrinating our youth and instigating them for turbulence. They know that the blood of others' children like Tufail Matoo and Rafeeq Bangroo would spill on the streets and they would get an issue to sustain their politics of bloodshed", Omar said. He said that it were the separatist leaders who had been day in and day out asking for the blood of Kashmiris for resolution of the Kashmir problem. He said that all he wanted was these youngsters' sweat and not their blood for resolution of the Kashmir crisis. Omar Abdullah said that "I believe instead of shedding blood, youth must sweat it out to solve their problems". He said the anti-peace elements resort to frequent strike calls and the people are fed up with their nefarious designs and want peace. Chief Minister made a fervent appeal to the people of the city and elders in particular to advise their children not to tread this path which led to death and destruction. He said that to keep their cauldron boiling, the disruptive elements had been playing with the sentiments and emotions of the innocent youth. Referring to recent unpleasant incident of Noorbagh in Srinagar in which a youth, namely Javed Ahmad Malla got killed, Omar said that the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir was investigating the matter and as soon as report was received, any body found guilty would be brought to justice. He further said that if anybody was found involved in the killing of Matoo and Bangroo, he too would be punished as per the law of the land. Chief Minister said that, according to the preliminary reports available with him from Police, Javed Ahmed Malla was among the youth who had boarded a CRPF bunker and set it on fire. "What do you think would be the reaction of security forces? Obviously firing in their own defence", he added. Hurriyat (G) officiating Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, immediately lashed out at Chief Minister for his diatribe against Geelani and dismissed him as a 'school kid'. In a statement, he warned Omar Abdullah against making such statements and asked him to exceed his 'brief' in appeasing New Delhi. PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, too reacted to Chief Minister's statement and said in a statement this evening that the head of the government had given his judgment of "suicidal death" against Javed Ahmed Malla even before completion of the official inquiry, "much like Shopian" last year.
