"We have decided to resume trade on Tuesday", Spokesman of Traders Association Shiraz Ahmed Khan told Early Times. He said that government is ready to fulfill their demands and Deputy Commissioner Poonch has conveyed them the assurances of government. Giving details, a senior member of the Association Pawan Anand said that they had detailed meeting with Deputy Commissioner regarding the issue who had agreed to fulfill their demands within two weeks. "We will resume trade and are giving two weeks time to fulfill all the demands" Pawan Anand said adding that six representatives of the Association viz Krishen Singh, Shiraz Ahmed Khan, Rajiv Tandon, Abdul and Haji Munshi Khan besides him met Deputy Commissioner Poonch on Thursday evening and this morning to discuss various issues related to trade. Sources said that DDC had received direction from higher ups to streamline the trade on LoC and hold talks with the trades following which he invited traders for discussion. Following the meeting, Deputy Commissioner has reportedly written to higher ups regarding demands of the traders for taking up the matter with Government of India. Traders' meeting with DC was followed by meeting of 150 LoC Traders at Poonch in which they decided to resume trade from next Tuesday. The traders had suspended trade on May 27 following ban on export of Zeera and Ajwain by Government of India. The union government had shifted these items in the list of spices which is not an approved item according to the Standing Operation Procedure signed between India and Pakistan in October 2008. However traders had raised the question that how Zeera and Ajwain was allowed when it was spice. They were saying that it is herbal medicine and ban on it should be lifted at the earliest. Lifting of ban on export of Ginger and Garlic was among the menu of their demands. Traders were also demanding increase in the reception of trucks from 25 to at least 100 besides increase in the number of trade days. Some local demands like facilities in Rangar Trade Centre was also among important demands of the trade. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Poonch KR Khajuria said that the demands which are under the control of state government will be conceded after discussion with higher authorities. However, he said that the demands which are not under their control are being recommended to union government. He said that the number of trucks will be increased as soon as the security will be enhanced at the Trade Centre. "I will talk to Police for increasing security and when they will provide the same, the number of trucks to be received or sent can be increased double from the existing", he said.
