EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, June 25: In the first such action against government officials indulging in willful neglect of duty, senior officers and scores of others were found absent during simultaneous raids conducted by district vigilance squad (DVS) on over 50 premises of 25 departments across the district today.
Much to the surprise of the raiding DVS team, the sheep husbandry department at Nowshera was found locked as all the employees including the peon, who was to open the office, were absent. Strict action under law would be recommended against the absentees, official sources said.
The DVS head, additional deputy commissioner Robin Singh Mehta had constituted two teams for Rajouri tehsil and one each for Nowshera, Budhal, Kalakote, Thanamandi and Darhal. While the Rajouri tehsil teams were headed by Mehta and chief planning officer, other five teams were led by tehsildars of those areas.
"A total of 25 departments were raided in Rajouri tehsil only," sources said and added, "Over 25 premises of different departments were raided at five other places."
The tehsildars had submitted a detailed report of the raids conducted by them at Nowshera, Budhal, Kalakote, Thanamandi and Darhal to Mehta.
Scores of employees, including heads of departments and senior officers, were found absent during the surprise raids, the sources added. Accompanied by DVS members, when Nowshera tehsildar Satpal Sharma reached sheep husbandry department, he found it locked as none of the employees had come to the office.
In Nowshera's rural development department, five employees were found absent out of 12. There was, however, full attendance in departments of PHE and public works at Nowshera, the sources added. In Budhal too, most of the officers and employees were not found on duty.
"When Budhal tehsildar Ali Mohammad raided agriculture department at Budhal, he found sub-divisional officer V K Koul and junior agriculture assistant Davinder Singh absent from duty," sources said.
CAPD tehsil supply officer Bashir Mohammad, two sericulture department employees and two of animal husbandry department were also found absent at Budhal.
At the time of filing this report, details of raids from Kalakote, Thanamandi and Darhal were yet to be compiled. When contacted, Mehta said a detailed report of the raids would be submitted to the deputy commissioner for action against the absentees.
He said DVS had launched a campaign in Rajouri to ensure full presence of employees in offices.
