| Historic Sudhmahadev mela gets underway | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, June 25: The historic Sudhmahadev mela in Chenani tehsil of Udhampur district got underway amidst colourful festivity on Friday. Thousands of devotes thronged Sudhmahadev temple to seek blessing of Lord Shiva on the first day of three-day mela.
During the day the devotees took bath in the Beenisangam called Budhisudhi rivulet, which flows out from top of the Dhar Shivgarh and is considered an abode of innumerable saints. Later they also took a dip in sin destroying spring (Pap Nashni bowli) situated just at the entrance of the temple, about which it is said that a holy dip in this spring shuns all evils.
MLA Chenani, K.C. Bhagat, formally inaugurated the mela.
District administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare, Police Control Room, assistance both and security have been made at the mela site beside various departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Health, National Rural Health Mission, Apiculture, Handicraft, Handloom and Animal Husbandry have put up their departmental stall to educate the masses about the various state and centrally sponsored schemes especially for socio economic upliftment of the people .
Number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other eatable corners were the main attraction for the general public visiting the mela site and children were seen enjoying the handola rides.
On the occasion Cultural Academy Jammu, Department of Youth Service and Sports Udhampur and Song and Drama Division (GOI) also arranged cultural programme for the entertainment of people at the Mela site.
The 3- day Sudhmahadev mela would culminate with wrestling match in which wrestlers from with in and out side the state are expected to participate.
