Natrang's Comedy play 'Tajbeez' staged at SMVDU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 25: Natrang staged its one of the acclaimed Urdu comedy 'Tajbeez' at SMVDS University, Katra. Based on Anton Chekov world famous Russian comedy 'The Marriage Proposal', the play was adapted & directed by Balwant Thakur. The play was presented at 'Maatrika Auditorium' in connection with a programme 'INSPIRE' being organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in which over six hundred Science toppers of 10th to 12th class of J&K are participating. Prof. R.N.K. Bamezai, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDS University was the Chief Guest on the occasion who appreciated the performance. In addition to this, the audience included teachers of the participant schools, faculty, families and staff members of the SMVDS University. The theme of 'Tajbeez' revolves around Shohab, a long-time neighbor of Rehmat Mirza has come to propose Rehmat's 25-year-old daughter, Sania. After he has asked and received joyful permission to marry Sania, she is invited into the room, and he tries to convey to her the proposal. Shohab is a hypochondriac, and, while trying to make clear his reasons for being there, he gets into arguments with Sania about a disputed piece of land and ends up having palpitations and a numb leg. After her father notices they are arguing, he joins in, and then throws Sohab out of the house. Rehmat Mirza then tells his daughter that Shohab was about to propose, and at this news she immediately starts "dying" and screams for her father to bring him back. He does, and Sania and Shohab get into a second big argument, this time about the superiority of their respective dogs. Shohab collapses and they fear he's died. However, after a few minutes he regains consciousness, and Rehmat forces him and his daughter to accept the proposal by asking them to hold the hands of each other. Immediately following this, the couple get into yet another argument. The audience at the Maatrika auditorium had a hearty laugh, though a small but a slick professional presentation by the artists of Natrang, Jammu. Mohit Sharma as Rehmat Mirza and Rohit Verma as Shohab demonstrated their respective command over professional way of acting. Rajani Bhatti equally supported both and all three were acknowledged through repeated laughters by the audience. Pankush Lakhnotra coordinated the show and the lights were designed and executed by Gaurav Jamwal.
