Police Martyrs Memorial Volley Ball tourney begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, June 26: 1st Police Martyrs Memorial State Level Volley Ball tournament began here at Mini Stadium last evening. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Gulzar Singh Slathia who was the chief guest on the occasion formally declared the tournament open. Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Surinder Gupta and President Jammu and Kashmir Volley Ball Association were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, DIG said that holding of this tournament was a step forward to remember the supreme sacrifices of our brave police martyrs and to encourage the sports culture for health society. The SSP said that the state level event would provide a chance to the participants hailing from different parts of the state to understand each other and exhibit their sports talents on a common platform. President JK Volley Ball Association while speaking on the occasion said that police has multifaceted role in the present scenario and hoped that the police authorities would continue their efforts for the enrichment of sports especially volley ball in future also. Meanwhile, in the inaugural match, the BSF Volley Ball team defeated Kathua Volley Ball Club in straight sets. The BSF team won the match by 25-21 and 25-17. In 2nd match, the team of Sports Authority of India defeated City Volley Ball Club, Udhampur by 25-13 and 25-12.
